On Saturday, I made a friend’s day a little bit brighter, and a little bit greener. She’s mostly home-bound, with very bad anxiety, and she doesn’t get out of the house much. She also struggles with depression. I made her an Easter basket to surprise her, and took her out for sushi.
She loves cats, so the t-shirt and the socks were cats. The flowers are so cheerful, I hope they brighten up her day. The wicker carrot and the cross are just little things to make her smile. And the candy because, well, what would an Easter basket be without candy?
She wasn’t expecting anything, and this wasn’t something I put a lot of money into, but it had things that were meaningful to her—and the look on her face when she saw it was priceless. Something small made her SO happy. Sometimes, just taking the time to be present with someone is all they really need. She shared that she had really been struggling with depression in recent weeks, but she didn’t want to tell anyone, because “They’re all tired of hearing about my problems.”
Be there for your friends. Reach out a helping hand. Take the time to let them know they matter to you. Make the world a little bit greener.
